Shivaangee is a Bharatanatyam (a classical Indian dance form from South India) dancer by training, currently studying contemporary technique, choreography and choreology at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, aspiring to eventually exploit the potential of Bharatanatyam to be a contemporary movement practice.
I encountered life on those streets as an outsider. As I walked, I had a heightened sensitivity to both its overwhelming visceral experience and its theft of my personal agency. I began to yield to the chaos, and it unfolded for me. It became gradually more difficult to distinguish the ugly from the beautiful, my reality from theirs. This piece is about fighting for space and finding my place amongst the native inhabitants of this urban chaos.
